Urban Homesteading

… or at least trying to.

I purchased my home in Oakland in 2019. Her nickname is The Treehouse since we’re on such a steep incline. The yard was completely untouched (some might say neglected). Since then we’ve planted:

  • Blood Orange Tree

  • Pink Lemon Tree

  • Fig Tree

  • Graphted Espalier Apple Tree

  • Yuzu Lime Tree

  • 6 Pineapple Guava Trees (Feijoa)

We’ve also added a chicken coop and run to the mix! All of our chicks are named after the Spice Girls and their songs. #SpiceChicks

2019

When I bought my house this bottom section was full of garbage, debris and overgrown. We had the palm tree removed and cleaned up the yard.

2020

We built a giant retaining wall/planter box! Filling this with dirt was not for the faint of heart since there is no wheelbarrow access (aka Sam and I carried a LOT of buckets down a LOT of stairs).
